Eureka

Nicolas Roeg | 1983 | ★★★★
Having made his fortune as a gold prospector in Canada some twenty years previously, an increasingly unhinged American millionaire finds the act of living out his retirement on a sun-drenched Caribbean island with his English wife complicated considerably by his uneasy relationship with his opinionated French son-in-law and strong-willed, intensely sensual daughter; the unwanted attentions of a ruthless Jewish businessman and a deceptively soft-spoken Italian-American mobster also prove problematic. Filled with unsettling visual delights, excellent performances, and thought provoking human insight – not to mention an eye-catching cameo from Norman 'Desmond' Beaton – Eureka proves a decided delight.
